What is Ayurveda?

AYURVEDA is an ancient science originating in India. It aligns with nature and helps to heal the disease from its root cause with herbal preparations that do not harm our system.

AYU means Life and VEDA means science or Knowledge-Ayurveda means LIFE SCIENCE. Ayurveda is not only about medical science but also about our whole life.

This course will teach you the healthy practices explained in Ayurveda to prevent diseases and maintain good health in a natural way.

What is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga yoga is a traditional dynamic yoga, which is based on specific breathing techniques synchronized with a series of postures.

The term Ashtanga means eight limbs in Sanskrit. These eight limbs are the 8 founding principles of Ashtanga yoga found in Patanjali's yoga sutras: Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi.

This philosophical system was developed by Krishnamacharya, Sage and yogi, after traveling in the Himalayas around 1916. For seven years he learned Ashtanga Yoga from Master Sri Ramamohan Brahmachari. In the 1930s he transmitted this knowledge to many Indian and Western students. Some of the best known include Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, BNS Iyengar, Indra Devi and his son TKV Desikachar. This practice was then popularized in the West 30 years later.

About the Location
Discover New Mayapur, a unique spiritual community located in the heart of the Loire Valley, three hours from Paris. The castle, with its scenic grounds, garden, farm and peaceful forest, is an ideal setting to devote yourself to meditation, yoga and your well-being in order to recharge your batteries.

The main feature of the property is its castle, which was built on the foundations of an old castle on the same site, from the Renaissance era. It was built by and belonged to the same family (the Preaux dynasty) until its sale in 1946.
The castle of Oublaise then went into the hands of a French army commander, Jean-François Perrette, who gathered unemployed and sick French war veterans here after World War II. Perette decided to sell it to the Hare Krishna devotees when he reached the age of 80 in 1974. To this day, it belongs to the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.
The castle is built in a Neo-Renaissance style, has three floors, stunning wood marquetry on each floor, pillars ornamented with delicate sculptures, and even its own chapel complete with stained glass windows. Its opulence and refinement make it a must-see location.

New Mayapur is situated in a rural part of the Centre Val-de-Loire district – which has many historical sites and significance. The property is surrounded by forests and fields, as well as medieval villages and ancient castles nearby. The area was favoured by the French nobility and royalty during the 15th century. It is also famous for its milk and cheese production.

New Mayapur has a variety of activities to offer you! Families can get a refreshing country holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Individuals and groups with a natural curiosity and an open mind will discover a rich culture and a depth of wisdom with our immersive experiences. We also provide volunteering opportunities for those desirous to immerse themselves fully in the Bhakti life-style.

New Mayapur has three sets of Deities, namely Sri Sri Radha Govinda Madhava, Sri Sri Gaura Nitai and Sri Sri Krishna Balarama, the latter installed by Srila Prabhupada himself, who later on donated a Govardhan-Shila. A Nrsimhadeva Deity is also placed on the altar on special occasions. New Mayapur is the only Western temple having Krishna-Balarama Deities, one of the reasons which make this place so unique.

During your visit, take the opportunity to pay a visit to the boutique – which is located in what used to be the castle’s chapel. It is filled with beautiful clothes, handmade jewellery, interesting books and devotional paraphernalia for worship. It’s a great place to find some very original gifts for friends and family.
